Louisiana programs that pay family caregivers
Louisiana pays family members through 3 Medicaid programs. Each has its own rules for who qualifies, who can be paid and what it pays.

Community Choices Waiver (CCW)
The Community Choices Waiver is a Louisiana Medicaid home and community-based waiver for older adults and adults with disabilities who would otherwise need a nursing home. It pays for in-home help such as Personal Assistance Services (PAS), and a family member can be hired as the paid PAS worker, either through a provider agency or through the self-direction option with a financial management services (FMS) provider handling payroll. The waiver also includes Monitored In-Home Caregiving, which pays a live-in caregiver a daily stipend.
Hourly PAS wage — not published for family workers
How it works →Monitored In-Home Caregiving (MIHC)
Monitored In-Home Caregiving is a Community Choices Waiver service where a principal caregiver who lives with the participant provides day-to-day care and receives a daily stipend. The caregiver contracts with a licensed MIHC provider agency, which supplies a registered nurse and care manager, approves the home, and pays the per-diem stipend. The caregiver sends electronic daily notes to the agency.
Daily stipend; agency billed $59.60–$89.40/day (OAAS fact sheet, 2022)
How it works →Children's Choice Waiver (CC Waiver)
The Children's Choice Waiver gives extra in-home supports to Louisiana children with developmental disabilities, from birth through age 20, who live with their families. Its Family Support service pays a worker to help the child at home. Under the current provider manual, a parent may be paid for Family Support when the child's care is extraordinary compared with a child the same age without a disability, with a 40-hour weekly cap.
Up to $20,200/year total waiver budget

States that border Louisiana
Each state writes its own rules, and they differ more than people expect — a spouse who can be paid on one side of the line often cannot be on the other.
