Illinois programs that pay family caregivers
Illinois pays family members through 3 Medicaid programs. Each has its own rules for who qualifies, who can be paid and what it pays.
Who do you care for?
Community Care Program (CCP)
The Community Care Program is run by the Illinois Department on Aging for people age 60 and older who need help to stay at home. In-home aides are hired and supervised by contracted In-Home Services agencies. A family member, including a spouse, can be hired by one of these agencies and paid to care for their relative.
$18–$20/hr (reported)
How it works →Home Services Program (HSP)
The Home Services Program, run by the IDHS Division of Rehabilitation Services, helps people under 60 with severe disabilities stay at home. The customer hires and supervises their own personal assistant (PA), and the state pays the PA directly. Adult children and other relatives can be the PA, but spouses and parents of minor children cannot.
$20.00/hr
How it works →Medically Fragile, Technology Dependent (MFTD) Waiver
The MFTD Waiver is an Illinois Medicaid waiver for children who are medically fragile or depend on technology, such as ventilators or feeding tubes, so they can be cared for at home. Parents' income is not counted. Parents who hold an active RN or LPN license can be paid through a nursing agency for skilled nursing they give their child.
