Arkansas programs that pay family caregivers
Arkansas pays family members through 2 Medicaid programs. Each has its own rules for who qualifies, who can be paid and what it pays.
Who do you care for?
IndependentChoices
IndependentChoices is Arkansas Medicaid's self-directed option for adults who get personal care or ARChoices attendant care. Instead of agency care, the member gets a monthly cash allowance and hires their own personal assistant, who can be an adult child or other relative. Spouses, legal guardians, powers of attorney and income payees cannot be paid.

How it works →ARChoices in Homecare
ARChoices in Homecare is an Arkansas Medicaid waiver that pays for home care for adults 65 and older and adults 21–64 with physical disabilities who would otherwise need a nursing home. Attendant care is given by agency workers, or the member can self-direct through IndependentChoices and hire a relative other than a spouse.

States that border Arkansas
Each state writes its own rules, and they differ more than people expect — a spouse who can be paid on one side of the line often cannot be on the other.
